LANG Technik - USA offers best in class workholding products and their highly experienced applications engineers have drastically increased productivity for hundreds of machine shops in the US. In addition, LANG Technik – USA has teamed up with the Metalcraft Automation Group and together they can transition your machine shop towards a more productive and efficient future with CNC automation with RoboTrex.
#1 LANG Technik has already overcome the same challenges machine shops are still facing.
LANG Technik started out decades ago as a job shop providing machine shop services. They faced all the same challenges that every other machine shop faces today. They overcame those challenges by creating the first Makro-Grip Stamping Technology, Makro-Grip Self-Centering Vises, Quick-Point & Zero-Point Technology, and they grew from there. Today LANG is a worldwide company using the technologies and products they created to manufacture all their own products on 5-axis CNCs with RoboTrex – CNC Automation
Challenges every machine shop faces today:
• Need faster delivery times
• Need to increase spindle capacity – too many spindles sitting idle
• Cannot find and retain operators
• Competition is winning
• Need automation, but seems complex and risky
• Where to start

#2 LANG’s Makro-Grip Stamping Technology
Many high precision machine shops square up blocks of material or machine dovetails to get better clamping forces. These operations are wasteful and cost valuable time. LANG’s Makro-Grip Stamping Technology can help shops prepare saw-cut materials in seconds and eliminate wasteful material preparation. Makro-Grip Stamping requires only 3mm of material, can be performed in seconds, eliminates non-value-added machine time (and operator time), and helps operators securely locate the material in LANG vises with industry leading holding forces. LANG uses their unique Makro-Grip Stamping Technology to make virtually every one of their products. They understand the huge time saving benefits and have consistently been able to reduce labor costs year over year.
#3 Lang’s Makro-Grip Self-Centering Vises
Traditional smooth face vises require machine time and operator time to square up blocks of material. Dovetail vises require machine time and operator time to machine dovetails. The Makro-Grip 5-Axis Vise Jaws have the same geometry as the Makro-Grip Stamping Technology that helps create extreme holding forces in all directions. The stamping of parts also reduces the amount of material needed for clamping.
With minimal tightening of the vise with a torque wrench, operators can ensure part clamping with extreme holding forces and can feel confident that their material will not come loose from the vises and cause costly damage.
In addition, the teeth of the vises jaws are pyramid shaped and each tooth contacts the pre-stamped material on four surfaces per tooth. The extra surface area contact helps drastically reduce vibration from machining operations and helps operators increase their depth of cut, increase feed rates, produce better surface finishes with less passes, and will increase tool life – saving cycle time and money!
#4 LANG’s Quick-Point & Zero-Point Technology
Lang’s Quick-Point Clamping Plates with Zero-Point Grid patterns help increase process times because they reduce setup time, but that is only the beginning. The goal is to achieve accurate, repeatable, and consistent quality with every job, regardless of which operator is doing the set-up. Once installed, Quick-Point Clamping Plates create Zero-Point grid patterns that quickly locate single vises, multiple vises, risers, and any of the other LANG products. This modular system is flexible, accurate, reliable, and has created a systematic approach shops can benefit from on every job.

#5 Easy Transition to CNC Automation with RoboTrex
To transition to CNC automation with RoboTrex, simply set up machines for manual operation using Lang plates, vises, and the Zero-Point Clamping System. Lang and the Metalcraft Automation Group can then easily work with shop managers to integrate 24/7 lights out automation for their shops with RoboTrex.
Conclusion
Many machine shops have been struggling to overcome the same issues that LANG faced in their early years. Now, after decades of development, LANG has zeroed in on a systematic approach to help machine shops improve set-ups, shorten lead times, and take on the future with automation. Lang and the Metalcraft Automation Group work together to provide proven, reliable, and sustainable long-term solutions. They help production machine shops and short run job shops save time and make more money.
